Abstract

This article discusses Dave Holland’s children’s book, The Llama Who Rocks in Her Polka Dot Socks, which serves as a resource for drum circle facilitators and educators. In an interview, Holland explains that the book introduces the concept of drum circle facilitation and emphasizes making responsible choices, inspired by his experiences with his daughter. The book is designed to engage young readers and can be used by elementary teachers to promote life skills, compassion, and inclusion through various activities, such as creating rhythms and organizing drum circles. It also supports social-emotional learning by encouraging children to express themselves and appreciate diversity in a collaborative environment.
