The object includes a book illustration and accompanying text that have been removed from an unknown book (possibly a 19th century book regarding President Ulysses S. Grant's presidential cabinet/administration). The illustration is an engraved portrait of Edwards Pierrpont, the attorney general during Grant's administration, and the text is a short biography of his life and career. Both are printed on white paper and black ink.
