Description

The CDV features an image depicting the Trent Affair, a Civil War-era incident where the U.S. Navy illegally captured two Confederate diplomats, James Murray Mason and John Slidell, from a British Ship. In the image, Mason and Slidell are pictured on a ship. To the left, John Russell stands on land with his proper left foot resting on a lion's back. He rips a piece of paper in his hands. To the right, William H. Seward stands on land and gestures to the ship. Jefferson Davis is pictured in the background.
