Description
The medal's obverse design depicts an image of Barbara Fritchie, immortalized in American folklore by John Greenleaf Whittier in his poem ""Barbara Frietchie." She waves a Union flag from her porch while a soldier and cavalryman stand in the background. On the reverse, Confederate and United States flags are pictured intersecting at the top of the medal. Several rifles appear behind the flags, and the image of an eagle is placed at the center of the intersection. At the medal's bottom, a decorative border lines the edge.
