Description

The broadside is a newspaper carriers' address from 1861, which includes a two-column poem that is surrounded by a decorative border. In the poem, the carriers summarize the news of the year in verse. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, carriers' addresses were commonplace. On the first of each year, newspaper carriers would deliver these addresses, usually printed on a single sheet, to their customers in hopes of receiving a tip in return.
