This black and white illustration is of William Wirt, the longest serving Attorney General in U.S. history. Wirt is depicted as seated at a desk, holding papers and wearing a dark suite and white shirt. An oval portrait and other furniture is depicted behind him. Wirt's signature is depicted beneath the illustration. The illustration is within volume two of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
