This black and white illustration is of Alexander H. Stephens, an American politician who served as the vice president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865. Stephens is depicted as wearing a dark suit, vest and tie with a white shirt. His signature is depicted beneath the illustration along with "New York, D. Appleton and Co.". The illustration is within volume three of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
