This page of facsimiles includes Mr. Seward's suggestion for the close of the inaugural address from the original and the closing paragraph of the inaugural address as rewritten by Mr. Lincoln from the original from which the address was delivered. The facsimiles depict Mr. Steward's and Mr. Lincoln's handwriting and typed captions beneath each. Mr. Steward's suggestions are on the top half of the page and Mr. Lincoln's closing paragraph is on the bottom half of the page. The illustration is within volume three of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
