Frank and Virginia Williams
This black and white illustration is of Albert Sidney Johnston, considered by Confederate States President Jefferson Davis to be the finest general officer in the Confederacy before the later emergence of Robert E. Lee. Johnston is depicted as wearing a dark suit and tie with a white shirt. "General Albert Sidney Johnston at the Age of Fifty-Seven" is captioned below the illustration. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
