Description

This black and white illustration is of Silas Casey, a career United States Army officer who rose to the rank of major general during the American Civil War. Casey is depicted as wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with shoulder boards on either shoulder. The artist and engraver is named on the bottom edges of the illustration. Casey's signature is depicted below the illustration and "Maj. Gen. Silas Casey, U. S. V." is captioned beneath the signature. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
