Frank and Virginia Williams
This black and white illustration is of Edwin Vose Sumner, a career United States Army officer who became a Union Army general and the oldest field commander of any Army Corps on either side during the American Civil War. Sumner is depicted as wearing a dark double-breasted military uniform with shoulder boards and a high collar. The photographer and Engraver are named along the bottom right and left edges of the illustration. Sumner's signature is depicted below the illustration with the caption "Maj. Gen. Edwin V. Sumner" beneath. The publisher is named along the bottom of the page. This illustration is from volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
