Description

This black and white illustration is of Robert E. Lee, a Confederate general who served the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War, during which he was appointed the overall commander of the Confederate States Army. Lee is depicted in profile wearing a dark suit with brass stars on the collar, a dark tie, and a white shirt. The artist's name is named along the bottom edge of the illustration. Lee's signature is depicted beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
