Description
This black and white illustration is of Samuel Francis Du Pont, a rear admiral in the United States Navy, and a member of the prominent Du Pont family. Du Pont is depicted as seated at a table with a map, inkwell, and books. Du Pont is depicted as wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with epaulettes on the shoulders and embroidery at the cuffs of the sleeves. A hat is depicted on the floor near the chair's legs. Du Pont's signature is depicted below the illustration with "Likeness from a recent Photograph from life" captioned beneath the signature. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
