This black and white illustration is of Judah P. Benjamin, a United States senator from Louisiana, a Cabinet officer of the Confederate States and, after his escape to the United Kingdom at the end of the American Civil War, an English barrister. Benjamin is depicted wearing a dark suit and tie with a white shirt. His name is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustration is from volume eight of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
