Frank and Virginia Williams
This is an illustration of James Henry Lane, 1814 – 1866 was a partisan militia leader during the Bleeding Kansas period that immediately preceded the American Civil War. The illustration depicts Lane in a dark suit, vest, and tie with a white shirt and metal shield pendant on a thin chain. The illustration is set in an oval border inset in a square box. The caption beneath the illustration reads "James H. Lane." The illustration appears in volume one of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
