Description

This black and white illustration is of George Armstrong Custer, a United States Army officer and cavalry commander in the American Civil War and the American Indian Wars. Custer is depicted as standing with one arm resting on the barrel and the opposite hand resting on the handle of a sword. Custer is depicted waring a long, dark, double-breasted military coat with star-studded shoulder boards and two rows of buttons. The photographer, Brady, is named below the illustration and Custer's signature is depicted beneath it. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
