Frank and Virginia Williams
This sepia toned photograph is of Ulysses S. Grant, an American Commanding General who led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865 and politician who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. Grant is shown wearing a dark military uniform with star studded shoulder boards. The coat is fully unbuttoned and the vest is partially unbuttoned. The copyright by M. P. Price is written in the lower right corner of the photograph. The photograph was found tipped in just before the title page of volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
