Description

This is an illustration of James K. Polk, the 11th president of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849 who is chiefly known for extending the territory of the United States through the Mexican–American War. Polk is depicted as wearing a dark suit, vest and thick black tie. The caption beneath the illustration reads "James K. Polk". The illustration appears in volume one of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
