This black and white illustration is of General John Gibbon, a career United States Army officer who fought in the American Civil War and the Indian Wars. Gibbon is depicted wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with a dark tie and star-studded shoulder boards. Gibbon's name is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
