Description
This black and white illustration is of General Robert E. Lee, the overall commander of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The illustration depicts General Lee wearing a double breasted dark uniform. The artist's name, "Neill N. Y." is directly beneath the illustration and "Gen. R. E. Lee" is in script beneath that. "Engraved for the First Year of the War." is printed toward the bottom of the page. The illustration is within volume two of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
