This black and white illustration is of Major Robert Anderson, a United States Army officer during the American Civil War. Anderson is depicted in a double breasted military uniform with epaulettes on the shoulders. The artist's name is directly beneath the illustration. Anderson's signature is depicted beneath the illustration with the caption "Major Robert Anderson, U. S. A." beneath it. "Now Hrig Gen. U. S. A." is beneath the caption. "Entered according to act of Congress A.D 1861 by G. P. Putnam in the clerks office of the district court of the southern district of N. Y." is along the bottom edge of the page. The illustration is within volume two of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
