Portrait of Frederick III, Crown Prince of Germany in Uniform

Biography

Frederick III was the son of William I, King of Prussia and first German Emperor in 1871. He succeeded his father in 1888 to the German and Prussian throne. He died of throat cancer 99 days after his succession. The Grants visited Berlin in 1878 but were unable to meet with the Emperor and Empress. Instead they met with Prince Frederick III and his wife Princess Victoria and enjoyed a dinner together with the royal couple.
