Biography

The Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna was the granddaughter of Czar Nicholas I of Russia. In 1867 she married King George I of Greece becoming Regent Queen. Together with King Georgia I, Queen Olga held a large reception for General and Mrs. Grant. The foreign ministers and other officials in Greece attended this aristocratic affair. This event showcased the elaborate costumes and riches of the Greek aristocracy. Mrs. Grant commented on the silk gown, jewels and tiara of the Queen. General Grant later had lunch with the King and various officers.
