Description

This color postcard features a German cruiser with the German Navy flag flying on the bow and the German flag flying on the stern. The ship is gray with a red hull. Three smoke stacks with dark smoke blowing out are near the center of the ship. The image of the German flag is in the upper left corner of the card and the title along the bottom of the card reads "German Cruiser "Breman." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides indication for address placement. The center of the card reads "Compliments of The Prudential Insurance Company of America Incorporated as a Stock Company by the State of New Jersey Home Office, Newark, N. J." The description of the Bremen in the lower left corner reads "THE BREMAN, of the German Navy, is a third class cruiser. Displacement, 3,200 tons. Length, 341 feet. Width, 43 1/4 feet. Draft, 16 1/2 feet. Horse-power, 10,000. Armament: 10 4.1-inch guns; 10 4.1-inch 4 machine and 2 light guns. Speed, 23 knots. Crew, 268 officers and men. Built at Bremen, Germany, in 1903-4. Cost about $1,275, 000."
