Description

This sepia toned picture postcard features the United States Navy ship, the New Jersey, in open water. Smoke is pictured coming from the funnel/stacks and four different flags fly from the conn. A text box in the upper right of the card provides the following information about the ship: New Jersey Speed 19.18 knots, Displacement 14948 tons, Length 435 feet, Horsepower 23,089, Armament: 4-12 in., 8-8 in., 12-6 in. Under 4 in.-16, 4-21 in. Torpedo Tubes Complement: 49 Officers, 857 men Cost $3,405,000. The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher and photographer information, as well as, indication for correspondence, address, and postage stamp placement. "Battleship series no. 1" is in the lower left corner of the card.
