Description

This postcard commemorates the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary Mississippi's designation as a United States Territory. A gold seal on the left contains the image of an eagle in the center with the text "Seal of the Mississippi Territory 1798" on the edge of the seal. The text below the seal quotes the statement made by President John Adams declaring the Mississippi Territory. A 1798 Mississippi Territory three cent postage stamp is in the upper right corner of the card and the postmark, dated April 7, 1948 in Natchez, Mississippi, also declares "first day of issue" for the postage stamp.
