Description

This postcard commemorates the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary Mississippi's designation as a United States Territory. An illustration of Ellicot's Hill, the site of the first raising of the American Flag over the Mississippi Territory, the seal of the Mississippi Territory, and a scroll that reads "150th Anniversary of the Mississippi Territory", and a riverboat is on the left half of the card. A three cent 1798 Mississippi Territory postage stamp is in the upper right corner of the card and the postmark, dated April 7, 1948 in Natchez, Mississippi, also declares "first day of issue" for the postage stamp.
