Description

This postcard commemorates the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary Mississippi's designation as a United States Territory. An illustration of Governor Winthrop Sargent 's home in Natchez within an outline of the state of Mississippi is on the left half of the card. The text above the house reads " 1798 Commemorating the 150th Anniversary Territorial Mississippi 1798-1948" and the text beneath the illustration reads "Gloucester" Natchez, Miss. Home of Winthrop Sargent first Territorial Governor of Mississippi Territory. A three cent 1798 Mississippi Territory postage stamp is in the upper right corner of the card and the postmark, dated April 7, 1948 in Natchez, Mississippi, also declares "first day of issue" for the postage stamp.
