Oral history; interview with Dr. Bob Williams, May 17, 2012, Mitchell Memorial Library, Mississippi State University. Williams was born in Joiner, Arkansas, in 1939. He first came to Mississippi State as a student in 1959, and graduated with his Bachelor's degree in 1961 and his Master's degree in 1963. He later earned his PhD in Agricultural Economics from Mississippi State in 1977. Williams began working with the MSU Extension Service in early 1964. He served as Assistant Extension Economist, Associate Extension Economist and Leader of the Extension Economist Department. On June 30, 1995, Williams retired as the Interim State Leader for Agriculture for the MSU Extension Service. In November of 1995 through the time of this interview, Williams worked part-time in the Vice President's office for Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine as a Project Coordinator. During his time of service at Mississippi State, Williams earned many awards and honors, including the Outstanding Service Award from the MSU Alumni Association, Chair of the Southern Extension Farm Management Committee, member of the Mississippi Economic Task Force for Governor William Winter, and President of the Mississippi Association of County Agricultural Agents. In this interview, Williams discusses his time spent as a student and as an employee in the Lloyd-Ricks Building, the renovation of the building and the people who made it a special place to be.
