Abstract
Estimated management costs and losses due to insects and other invertebrates in soybeans during the 2025 growing season were collected and compiled from 20 states to provide a record of insect pressure and management practices for the year. These annual estimates provide a historical record of pest pressure and insect management and have been compiled in some states since 2004. Participating states accounted for 68% of soybean acreage in the United States, with near 100% participation in the southern states. As has been true in previous years, the stink bug complex was the costliest insect pest in soybean followed by corn earworm. Total invertebrate management costs were $16.36 per acre, with estimated crop losses to invertebrates at $8.11 per acre, making the 2025 total costs plus losses $24.45 per acre. An average of 0.64 foliar insecticide applications were made over all soybeans. State estimates varied widely, with invertebrate management costs in two states averaging less than $10/ac, while averaging more than $40/ac in three states. Similarly, the estimated yield losses from invertebrates ranged from less than $0.25/ac in four states to more than $25/ac in three states. While cost and loss estimates in individual states rose and fell, the overall estimate of invertebrate management costs and yield losses in the participating states during 2025 was very similar to 2024.
