Description

The lithographic print, released in commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation, contains a portrait of Abraham Lincoln surrounded by four American flags and two illustrations of a slave auction and a freedmen working in a carpentry shop. Between these two illustrations, an American eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows is pictured. In addition, two African-American cherubs are shown holding a banner that states, ""By the President of the United States of America,"" which appears above the full-text of the Emancipation Proclamation. Below the text, a final illustration depicts the prosperity of the North with the destruction of the South.
