Description

This black and white illustration is of George Thomas, an American general in the Union Army during the American Civil War and one of the principal commanders in the Western Theater. Thomas is depicted as wearing a double-breasted dark military uniform with shoulder boards on either shoulder and a medal on his left chest pocket. Thomas's signature is depicted beneath the illustration and "Engraved by H. b. Hall and Sons, New York" is at the bottom of the page. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
