The illustration depicts Giddings as standing with one hand braced on a stack of books. Giddings is wearing a dark suit, vest and tie with a white shirt. The caption beneath the illustration reads "Joshua R. Giddings." The illustration appears in volume one of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
