Frank and Virginia Williams
This black and white illustration is of Winfield Scott, an American military commander and political candidate who served as a general in the United States Army from 1814 to 1861, taking part in the War of 1812, the Mexican–American War, the early stages of the American Civil War and conflicts with Native Americans. Scott is depicted as wearing a dark military uniform that includes epaulettes on each shoulder and a sword. "From a recent photograph by Brady" is directly beneath the illustration. Scott's signature is depicted beneath the illustration with the words "Lieut Gen LL" beneath the signature. The illustration is within volume two of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
