Description

Twenty-four pages of original court documents from the State v. Sturkie case dating 1863. The case was heard in the State of Mississippi Lowndes County Circuit Court.

Transcription

The State of Mississippi, Lowndes County, charged Daniel Sturkie with unlawfully trading with a slave in 1863. Specifically, he received one half bushel of potatoes, from Henry, an enslaved man, the property of Fanny Evans, without the written consent of the master, owner, or employer of said slave.
