Fourteen pages of original court documents from the State v. Daves case dating 1859. The case was heard in the State of Mississippi Lowndes County Circuit Court.
The State of Mississippi, Lowndes County, charged Duraine H. Daves with violating the Sabbath in 1859. Specifically, he is accused with employing his enslaved man in labor on a Sunday by driving a wagon which was not in the ordinary househould of daily necessity or other work of necessity or charity. He was found not guilty.
