J. M. Taylor in a series of letters to Stone first asks him to recommend a reliable young man who is familiar with dairying. In the second letter he asks Stone to make room for a young man he knows that would like to come to college. He agrees to pay for his expenses. In the third, he asks Stone to resolve an apparent quarrel between his sons. They have both written that they are not getting along and Taylor would like for Stone to talk to them.
