Description

The object is a Civil War-era Confederate patriotic envelope. Its recto features an image of a flag with the seal of Maryland placed above a poem that has an anti-Union sentiment. The envelope is cream in color and is printed in blue ink. Its verso features what appears to be staining from adhesive.
