Description

The medal's obverse design features a scene from John Brown's Raid. In the image, a man, probably John Brown, is shown kneeling and cradling a lifeless body. Behind him, a cannon, smoke, and a man hitting another man with a gunstock are pictured. On the reverse, Confederate and United States flags are pictured intersecting at the top of the medal. Several rifles appear behind the flags, and the image of an eagle is placed at the center of the intersection. At the medal's bottom, a decorative border lines the edge.
