The medal's obverse design depicts a scene from the Second Battle of Bull Run. Eight soldiers are shown in the foreground waving rifles, swords, and a flag. Soldiers also fight and smoke rises in the background. On the reverse, Confederate and United States flags are pictured intersecting at the top of the medal.
