Description

The portrait photograph features an image of John Hay, who served as the twelfth United States Assistant Secretary of State (1879-1881), as a United States Ambassador to Great Britain (1897-1898), and as the thirty-seventh United States Secretary of State. The portrait is printed in black and white on a matte surface and is affixed to an off-white card. Below the image, a personal inscription from Clara Hay, John Hay's wife, to Prof. Dr. Isidore Groedel appears.
