Description

The stereograph features a black and white image of reindeer tied to electrical posts against a background of a small town and a crowd of men. These reindeer were purchased from Norway in response to legislation that William McKinley signed in 1897. The reindeer were to carry supplies to gold miners across the Chilkoot Pass to the newly established town of Dawson, Alaska in response to rumors that the miners were starving and without supplies. The image is mounted on a peach card with rounded corners.
