Artifacts

The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana consists of approximately 12,000 artifacts, statuary, prints, paintings, broadsides, ephemera, photographs, philately, collectibles/miniatures, and numismatics. Materials are housed in 20 map case drawers, 30 cartons, and a variety of loose statuary, prints, and paintings. The collection also includes nearly 100 original manuscripts and the Claude Simmons collection which consists of approximately 12 bankers boxes of Lincoln related materials and scrapbooks. There are also approximately 15,000 books, journals, and pamphlets separated into two collections: the Lincoln Book Collection and the Civil War/Collateral Book Collection.

    The white cast bust of Abraham Lincoln is a reproduction of Thomas Dow Jones's 1861 original. The bust depicts Abraham Lincoln's proper left quarter profile. Around his shoulders, a cape is draped. He is also wearing a suit and stock tie.

On the reverse, Grant stands in his military uniform with a sword drawn at his proper right side. His proper left hand sits at his hip. A line of soldiers stand behind him in the image's background.

    The chromolithograph depicts a farmyard scene where slaves are shown laboring around a fenced-in area with livestock. A house and several outbuildings are also pictured. The chromolithograph was enclosed in a brown wooden frame but was removed for preservation. It is in overall poor condition and has experienced multiple tears as well as the removal of its border space.

    The bronze bust depicts the likeness of Abraham Lincoln. Kendall, a prolific sculptor, replicated Broglum's massive 1908 sculpture of Lincoln's head, which now sits in the Crypt of the U.S. Capitol.
