Description

The carte de visite features a standing portrait of John C. Breckinridge, United States Senator during the outbreak of the Civil War. He was removed from the Senate after joining the Confederate Army and was made Confederate Secretary of War in 1865. In the portrait, Breckinridge wears a suit and tie and holds his proper left hand at his waist.
