Description
The medal's obverse design features three images of Andersonville prisoners. The first is shown in military uniform with his shackled hands raised. A second prisoner is pictured kneeling in prayer, while the third stands with shackles on his wrist. A barbed wire is shown in the foreground while more caged prisoners are pictured in the background. On the reverse, Confederate and United States flags are pictured intersecting at the top of the medal. Several rifles appear behind the flags, and the image of an eagle is placed at the center of the intersection. At the medal's bottom, a decorative border lines the edge.
