The medal's obverse design depicts the left-side profile of Thomas Jonathan ""Stonewall"" Jackson, a Confederate general in the American Civil War. The reverse design features Jackson on horseback in his military uniform. He holds a flag in his proper left hand and a sword in his proper right.
