Description
The medal's obverse design features the left-side profile of Sidney Lanier, an American author, poet, musician, and Confederate soldier during the American Civil War. The medal's reverse features a scene where Lanier sits at the base of a tree while gazing at a sunset. He holds a writing utensil in his proper right hand and papers at his knees. A flute also sits by his side.
