Description
The medal's obverse design depicts a bust portrait of David Glasgow, a flag officer in the U.S. Navy during the American Civil War and famous for saying, ""Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."" The medal's reverse features an image of Glasgow standing on a ship mast net calling down to the crew below him. Two other ships are pictured in the scene's background.
