The silver medal's obverse design depicts the right-facing profile of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States. On the reverse, two shackled hands are pictured in front of a sun amidst the words EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION. Beneath the hands, dozens of figures are pictured in various positions.
