Description
The playbill is for a 20 February 1861 Academy of Music performance of Un Ballo in Maschera that Abraham Lincoln attended. Lincoln arrived at the opera late - after the first act - but was greeted with cheers from the audience and a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner from the company. The playbill, while damaged at the upper left corner, notes Lincoln's attendance as well as the planned performance of the national anthem. What remains of the playbill has been pieced together and adhered to what appears to be a sheet of laid paper.
